The Council of Europe Presents Two Books on Media in Azerbaijani

On 10 December, 2009 at 12:00 the Council of Europe will conduct the presentation of its two publications at the Azerbaijan Media Center. The Council of Europe’s publications  “Living together - a handbook on Council of Europe standards on media’s contribution to social cohesion, intercultural dialogue, understanding, tolerance and democratic participation” and “Freedom of expression in times of crisis Guidelines of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe” were translated into Azerbaijani and published in November 2009.

The idea behind the “Living together” booklet is to put together and explain in an accessible language the Council of Europe standards in this area. It serves as a reference tool on Council of Europe standards concerning the possible contribution of media to living peacefully and harmoniously together in a democratic society.

The Committee of Ministers’ Guidelines on freedom of expression in times of crisis provide specific advice in respect with the right to receive and impart information, which is essential in a democratic society, and it becomes even more important in times of crises such as wars, terrorist attacks and natural disasters.

The booklets are meant to serve the widest possible audience - policy makers, governments, educators, media professionals, non-governmental organisations, various communities, the youth, etc. The texts are easy to read and understand and yet informative.
