On 16 November 2009, the Council of Europe in co-operation with the Azerbaijan Press Council will hold a conference on “Defamation and Freedom of Expression in Azerbaijan”. The conference, which will take place in Park INN Hotel’s Dan Ulduzu hall, will start at 10.00 in the morning and last one day.
We are pleased to announce that representatives from the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan, from the Milli Majlis (Parliament), as well as from media outlets and the international community accredited in Azerbaijan as well as the Council of Europe are expected to attend the conference.
By bringing together different stakeholders, the conference will open up a discussion on the situation of freedom of expression in Azerbaijan and the need to adopt a law on defamation or other legislative amendments.
