Council of Europe will hold a conference on improving the transparency and efficiency in the legislative process

With the support of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and in co-operation with the Milli Majlis, Commission on Combating Corruption of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Development Alternatives Inc (DIA), the Council of Europe will hold a conference on improving the transparency and efficiency in the legislative process. The conference, which will be held within the framework of the Project of Support to the Anti-corruption Strategy of Azerbaijan (AZPAC), will take place on Wednesday, 11 February 2009, in the Milli Majlis.

The aim of the conference is to discuss the legislative process in Azerbaijan and how it might be improved in order to facilitate the efficient passage of high-quality legislation and maximise its resistance to corruption. The event will bring together experts, representatives from governmental authorities, the Milli Majlis, civil society and the media. There will be an inter alia address by  Mr Ziyafat Asgarov, 1st Deputy Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Member of the Commission on Combating Corruption, Ms Margaret Killerby, Director of Co-operation of the Council of Europe, and the Honourable Anne Derse, United States Ambassador to the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The event will start at 10:00 and last until 14:00.
